Your brightly lit shots will be much less noisy, given any particular ISO value.

I think this illustrates the above point ... all in one shot.

This is a picture excerpt shot at ISO 800 with flash.

The part on the right (a beard and long hair) appears (to me at least) much less noisy
than the left, which is some distance away where the light from the flash
was much less.
