The Reason to distinguish Calibration and Profiling

Is important is to clarify to the user that after completing calibration and profiling, which may well SEEM to be the same thing, that one can't subsequently adjust the monitor settings. Profiling depends on the monitor's calibration being stable. Once you change the monitor state the profile is worthless.

Some smarter monitors will adjust their calibration state when the profile used changes. This adjustment will place the monitor is the same state that the profile was created. But many, especially cheaper ones, won't. So know your system!

This requirement to maintain the state of the monitor is the principal reason why we distinguish calibration and profiling.
