For those who think cell phone cameras are taking over, I just want to point out that there have always been three market segments:

  1. Non-photographers who just want easy snapshots
  2. Enthusiasts/hobbyists
  3. Professionals

Were people worried that the Kodak Instamatic would make 35mm SLRs obsolete?

Enthusiasts might have used an SLR as in this:

And the pros had the large format studio rigs:

All that's happened is the that the three market segments have expanded.  Now, the non-photographer market includes children, teenagers, and anyone who has a phone.  Those who take an interest in photography, still prefer "real" cameras.

Do you agree? What are your thoughts?
