Roughly, how many of your shots are keepers?

I'd say maybe one in ten, give or take a few.

On the macro lens, there's a switch for choice of focal range. Where do you have it set?

Full-range, always. I've tried setting it to 0.28-0.50 and it doesn't seem to improve focusing speed any, while limiting the choice of subjects a great deal. The other position (0.50 - infinity) just causes pure frustration.
