I can't recall the last time I fumbled to change settings on a dslr, but whenever I try to use my daughters iPhone to take a. pic it is a slow process, for her too for that matter

Then you must have pleeeeennnnttttttttttyyy of time when taking your shots. My very cheap smartphone automatically switches to multishot when keeping the shutter depressed.
My camera, just like your phone, automatically switches to burst because I leave my camera on burst. The number of photos I take depends on how long I press the shutter release. .
If you find your huge dslr gets the required results, then by all means be my guest. I'll keep my XA5 for what it does really well: low light.
I don't have a really large DSLR.
