That is true, except there is another way. I use the exp comp button to activate the level display. My exp comp is controlled solely by the rear dial. It is the same, press the dial to toggle the feature On and Off, When On, the dial works as exp comp.

in BUTTON/DIAL SETTING - FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING (it is the last item)

Also in BUTTON/DIAL SETTING - EXP.COMP.BUTTON SETTING  (set it to toggle or not)
