Well that's why I'm asking. Like I said I haven't had any of these issues editing jpgs from the same sensor generation on other cameras.

So you're saying that is normal behavior with the X-T1?

It shouldn’t be worse than your other cameras, but a big shadow lift on a jpeg will often reveal significant ugliness - the necessary data often just doesn’t exist to work with anymore. What ISO were these images shot at? What was the NR set to in-camera? Were these jpegs produced with the FINE setting? All these things will have a lot to do with what you can get away with when editing jpegs

Posting full-size images with intact EXIF data would be helpful for sorting out any unusual issues you are having.

For some reason, I'm having issues with uploading full size images. I'll try again later from a better connection and see if they'll stick.
