X-T3 shutter speed question

I took the X-T3 out this afternoon and experienced something I've never seen before.  It was an overcast day and I had the camera set to aperture priority.  ISO set to 400.  A few times during the day I would go to take a shot and the camera would display the shutter speed of 8000 in red.  Since it was overcast I can't imagine how it was choosing that as the appropriate speed.  I had the Zeiss 32 f/1.8 on the camera.  Has anyone seen anything like this before?
