Why I am I so bad composing with wide angle lenses?

One thing i do remember Bruce saying - tonality should be used to guide the eye around the frame. And the way to do that is not to apply global punchy contrast but to start with low, soft global contrast, then add contrast locally where punch is needed and softness locally where that is needed. By doing this, you control each section of the image independently and can tune it to guide the eye.

Perhaps such an approach can be used to suppress unwanted detail, complexity and confusion in the midground areas of my image and concentrate emphasis only on those parts that need it?

This, of course, would be all about image editing rather than field work, especially photoshop techniques. I'm not a photoshop user, so if the images depend on post processing editing for their refinement, I'm going to have to find alternate raw converter techniques (and the skills to use them effectively).
