Is it bad to send prophoto to the printer?

According to this expert this is a nono.

I always send 16bit prophoto from Lightroom to my printer because thats the format they are in when saved from photoshop or just directly from lightroom if they never got to photoshop (melissa colorspace).

In the print module I will choose the correct paper profile and media plus the rendering intent.

According to this expert this is a bad thing to do and the file should be converted to Adobe RGB first.

I thought the color space of the original image  (prophoto/Adobe RGB) would simply be put in gamut by the ICC profile of the  paper and having more (prophoto) in the beginning would not hurt.
