Re: G5X mark II owners - Some Cons

Yes, the G5X-II has the same battery indicator as prior Canon cameras. I think the concern here is that there is no finer delineation of battery life -- no way to see the actual percentage of remaining power left. I generally see the battery indicator, when it starts to drop, as a reminder to make sure I have a spare charged with me before I head out shooting. Usually, once it starts dropping, there are still plenty of shots remaining.
Some people are complaining about Canon's decision to change the USB charging port from micro-USB to USB-C-PD, rather than just to USB-C. These folks seem to think Canon is pressuring them to buy expensive new chargers (from Canon) rather than using their existing phone chargers. My perspective is different. I'm glad to see the update to USB-C, and I didn't mind the incentive to buy a type PD battery backup for my upcoming trip, as it does give fast charging on my Samsung phone (old one didn't). More importantly to me, unlike the prior cameras (I think), I can now recharge the battery while I'm using the camera for, say, time lapse photography, and can even do so using my backup battery as a pass-through charger so it's getting charged, too.
I have not yet seen anyone discussing whether the PD charger charges any faster than the older system, but there are plenty of people complaining about it.
That's how I observed it, people thinking Canon is forcing them to buy new tech they don't need.
I don't understand the difference myself. It's not a deal breaker for me.
But I'm going to wait for the next gen hoping they make the EVF a 1 action operation like Sony eventually did.
