I'm guessing there would be a substantial improvement, but I don't know of the Gopro you have is better than the Gopro Hero4 Silver I have.

If you want to compare video, try shooting both in challenging conditions, particularly in dim lighting.   If on the other hand you plan on lighting everything with big lights, then compare in bright sun.

I would not worry that much about small differences in IQ - worry a lot more about the autofocus speed and accuracy.   Worry a lot more about performance in poor lighting.  Worry a lot more about dynamic range and ability to adjust in post processing.

Also consider you can set up a camera with a dome (or macro) port, mostly for stills, and mount the Gopro in a cold shoe on top of the housing or port and take video at the same time as stills.
