Clip on flash versus having an evf

Neither the GX8 nor the Pen-F have a built in flash and in both cases the EVF appears larger than the one in the GX9 (GX7, GX85). Perhaps there just isn't room for those EVF in the GX9 body without taking something else out.

If it were up to me, I'd get rid of the flash on the GX7, in order to get a larger EVF.

I think that this was the general idea of the GX8 and it failed as a product just as the Pen-F seems to have done.  I know and realise that many users of these cameras are just as in love with them as are owners of the also discontinued GM5 - but you can’t please enough of the people all the time.

Fujifilm includes a decent little clip on flash, that serves the same purpose and folds down when not in use.

Like the useful little clip on flash supplied with the GM5 where it came down to the built-in flash or evf choice.  Which I don’t often use (the flash), but it is handy to have the little flicker for backlighting situations.  Unlike a clip on evf which needs to almost continually clipped in place a clip on flash is truly an optional accessory.

Just as a piece of “useless” information: The GM5 clip on flash doesn’t work on the GX7 & G9 but strangely works on the G85, GX9 and surprisingly S1/S1R.  It needs the four dot contacts and does not work on the three dot contacts. I am not commenting on whether this makes the flash particularly useful on these other camera bodies
