You bet it does!! Shows up as focus banding, when the subtle shades and colors are slightly different between stacks. I've had many stacks ruined by this because with chips you can't blend as easily as you can with insects and flowers. Chips also have thin-film interference effects due to the very thin surface layers like you see in soap bubbles, this isn't restricted to chips either, as bird feathers, some insects and even the oxide levels in certain coins (US Cu pennies for example) have these effects.
