Fuji 16-80

I had mine on pre order from Adorama and was told the 16-80 will be available for shipping October 2nd. I can't understand why Amazon doesn't even show the 16-80 let alone having pre order available.

Unsuspecting wife. She would not be happy. Stabilization works reasonable.

I was going to complain about the sharpness but then I saw the shutter speed. I'll have see photos with a more realistic shutter speed. Kind of surprised the OIS didn't do a better job since it seems like a fairly static shot.
I'm curious where the focus point was? Right now, I don't think it's a sharpness issue, as much as it was shot wide open at F4. To me, the focus seems to be on the pillow behind the woman... and that seems very sharp, to me. Thoughts?
I wouldn't say very sharp, but I think you are correct that the focal plane is behind her head. You can kind of track it running on an angle that goes behind the subjects head.

I was chatting with B&H to ask about my pre-order of the XF 16-80/4 and they said it is not shipping today as planned. They told me that Fuji has not delivered to them as planned and currently don't know when they will.

Has anyone actually received confirmation of shipping by B&H here in the US?

Finally I decided to bite the bullet and order this lens. It's the best match for my type of photography and will replace my beloved 18-55. Now my full kit will have 16-80 F4, 90 F2 and 55-200. Great coverage for all things I want to shoot.

I’ve just been notified that my pre-ordered 16-80 is available for delivery, subject to my payment.
Do you mind saying where you ordered from? I preordered from Amazon months ago, but recently the lens became unavailable for preorder and they are no longer providing any estimates of availability for shipping.
I ordered mine in July from B & H. It was supposed to ship today but now I only see a cryptic message that all lenses will be shipped on a first ordered, first served basis with no date. 😢
Same here. Kept a watch at all major vendors, but prefer B & H. Back when it was new, I ordered a Canon 40D from Amazon. The camera box came inside a much larger box (big enough to bounce around) with absolutely nothing else. At least I know B & H does their own fulfillment.

Well, that's disappointing. Especially considering the email I got from Fuji this morning:

¿Alguien ha recibido confirmación de envío por parte de B&H aquí en los EE. UU.?
Bueno, eso es decepcionante. Especialmente considerando el correo electrónico que recibí de Fuji esta mañana:

available now ... where?

Here is one image from today, hand held, straight OOC jpeg, f4 at 80mm of a very small fly with the front element of the lens about 8 in/20 cm from the subject. Click to enlarge and see the detail (degraded from the original slightly

by the upload) but notice the bokeh is very good, as is the colour and contrast.

Will try and take some more general subjects over the weekend and post them.

Shot should have focused on her glasses and nose. Those seem to be reasonable to me

Ok hopefully the link works

these are noon walk around shots without too much though which is probably how I will use this lens in a new environment. I enjoy getting out and seeing new places and hopefully grabbing one or two keepers that I really enjoy. I look forward to those that will pursue a more analytical approach to this lens as well.

A few random shots on the way home from picking up the 16-80. I chose posting some of the outer reaches of the focal length so that you could see them from 16 and 80 mm. ISO at 200 unless otherwise indicated.

But I want to play a bit more with it before making a definite judgment (new toys always make me work for good results!). These were just candid shots on my way home.

I like the colors and contrast in this one. Looked at the exif - it seems it's just Provia and all other settings (highlight, shadows etc) set at 0. Am I correct?

Nice picture!

I just got my shipment notification from Adorama a couple hours ago. You might want to check your order status again to see if it has updated!

They've assigned it 3 day delivery so I'm expecting to receive it next week.

Thank you.

Yes, I didn’t use any in-camera settings as I wanted to use the simplest settings as possible to see what the different style images look like. I am quite satisfied with what turned out so now I can begin to apply my usual settings (e.g. B&W, Provia, Velvia, etc.).

Thanks for your comments.

Great to hear -- when exactly did you order yours?

Lens Goat, I ordered mine August 29 from Adorama. As of a couple of minutes ago I got the message on their web site "In progress, we are preparing your order for shipping".

If they ship it tonight I'll probably receive it tomorrow, I'm located in Long Island New York. I usually receive items the next day from Adorama or B&H but with them I have to pay the sales tax.

Anyway enjoy your new lens.

Thanks for sharing. It seems good enough for wide open at wide-end reach. With great OIS we can shoot handheld wide open in very dark scenes with below 1/10s shutter speed. Need save money for this baby now :D !
