Bodies and Glass
1

For years I’ve always believed, and was initially taught, that glass was what a photographer should invest in. Bodies come and go with each upgrade but glass will always be the more important of the two.

These days it seems as though the subjects in that idea have swapped positions. Now, it’s all about what the body can do and less about what the glass can capture; to a greater extent less about technical skill & talent. I see younger photographers promote themselves simply by stating that they have a Sony a7r III, for example, but the images are “meh.”

When did this shift change and what are your thoughts on it?

Sony a7 Sony a7R Sony a7R II Sony a7R III
