Selling used gear - how to deal with an insolent buyer?

I have just sold a lens in technically and optically flawless condition in my capacity as a private individual; a day later I got an angry response from the buyer telling me that the lens takes excellent - excellent: that was the adjective he used - photos in certain lighting conditions and awful photos in other lighting conditions. Because of this awful aspect to the lens, the buyer claimed that I have knowingly or unknowingly sold him a defective lens; he even went so far as to insinuate that I am a fraud. Needless to say, I am quite annoyed by the behaviour of this buyer.  I was wondering how people here would deal with a situation like this.
