EVF whiteout - still a thing?

I am very fond of my X-T1, but one thing annoys me. When I go to take a shot in daylight, the EVF goes very bright - virtually white - at first, before adjusting to show the view in a more normal exposure. I assume this is because it opens the aperture fully for metering before closing it down to the determined or set aperture. Clearly it's part of the normal operation and I have seen it before in the EVFs of other cameras.

My question is whether this is just to be expected of EVFs or whether it is something that has been improved with more recent cameras? Would something like an X-T2, X-T3 or X-H1 do this too?
