What is causing all these specks on my photos?!?

I hope that someone with more experience than me can say what is causing these specks. My guess is dust in the lens, but I've never had a lens get this bad before.

I've looked at the lens elements using a flashlight and it's really not all that bad (as old lenses go). This doesn't happen on all my photos, but when the light is just right, UGH.

  • Camera: Nikon D7000
  • Lens: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR
  • Lens hood was in use
  • The front and rear elements are clean.
  • I've blown the dust off the sensor.

Is there anything I can do about this? This is very frustrating.

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!
