Assuming the SL2 (200D) camera is similar to the Canon T7i (800D) camera (as far as the sensor is concerned etc.), it should be great for street photography.

Picture of people on a street, taken with a Canon T7i (800D) camera and a Canon 55-250mm STM "short" telephoto lens.

Picture of people not on a street using the same camera and lens.

I have hundreds more people pictures with that 24mp camera. I prefer to do minimal post processing, so it's important to me that I get the exposure right straight from the camera (as much as possible). I take so many pictures each week, that I really don't have much extra time to be on the computer for hours. See what we show each week on the Show Your Snaps thread.

Maybe there's something wrong with that particular camera. Have you checked the reviews? What review says that the Canon SL2 (200D) camera is worse than the Canon SL1 (100D) camera?

Lol no reviews say that.  Yeah looking at your two examples i see the same image quality I'm getting from mine

All im saying is its too 'clean' for me.

The sl1 for me had a special rendering.  Yeah post processing etc...    but i just prefer the files and the workflow i had.

If were doing landscape I'd prefer the sl2

For street i like the look of the sl1 files better.  Exposure was easier to post process straight outta the can too

At least ive compared the two and know for sure now

Cheers
