Low-light Performance of Sony DSC HX9v vs DSC HX20v

What happened?  I've taken many low-light images (e.g., of the Milky Way and night sky) with my Sony DSC-HX9v camera.  They are wonderful.  I just acquired a DSC-HX20v and shoot with the same settings.  The pictures are awful.  Am I doing something wrong or did Sony screw up a good thing?  There aren't many things that can be set so I don't know what I could be doing wrong.  Here are two images, both taken in nearly complete darkness in the Manual mode, ISO 3200, 30" exposure and F3.2.  Even after trying to process the HX20v image, which shouldn't be needed, the image is still terrible.  Does anyone know anything about the low-light performance of these two cameras?
