The 7.5 does have barrel distortion, but the 12-32 has more at the wide end. Even after the auto digital correction a picture from the zoom at 12mm still has more or less the same amount of distortion as the prime without digital correction.

The 7.5's focus distance marking is not to be relied on in the literal sense. In critical wide open cases you still need to MF, esp. when starting out. Once you learn your lens, however, approximate focusing is very possible.

My copy of the 7.5 is sharper than my copy of the zoom, but less sharp than my copy of the 45/1.8. Not too sure if this would be globally true.
