How important is it to turn off Active D-Lighting when shooting RAW?

I found I prefer to turn it on and adjust to my taste while shooting in RAW.  I use mostly H+ and H and Auto.  Is it really bad to do that?

I turn it on H+ or H when shooting landscapes with large contrasts (ie/ bright skies behind dark trees or horizon elements).

Does it depend on the camera you are using?  FYI, I use a D5000.

Nikon D5000
