A few images from Riga, Latvia

Sharing some images from a recent trip. C&C is welcome. Thanks.

1) Panorama of Riga, the capital of Latvia made from the viewing platform of St Peter's Church

2) A view of Riga from the viewing platform of St Peter's Church. Vanšu Bridge across river Daugava in the center; the Dome Cathedral is on the right side of the bridge.

3) A view of the city from Vanšu Bridge. The building on the left with the Latvian flag is the Riga Castle - the official residence of the President of Latvia. The Dome Cathedral is on the right side followed by the St Peter's church (with the green top). The last building on the right is the Academy of Sciences (also known as "Stalin's birthday cake" - was erected in 1958)

4) Some narrow streets in the Old Town are closed to traffic

5) The Freedom Monument is a memorial honoring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). The woman on top of the monument is holding up three golden stars, which represent the unity of the three Latvia's historical regions

6) The Latvian National Opera House

7) A spiral staircase in the Art Nouveau Museum. This staircase is considered to be the most impressive not only in Riga but also the whole of Europe

8) The Swedish Gate is part of the Old Town walls that went around Riga during the medieval times, serving as both fortification wall and as an important border for trade purposes. It is the only gate in the Old Town of Riga that preserved its original looks
