Get the X100S.  If you find the 35mm equiv uninspiring after some time, get the wide and tele convertors.  The X100 series can be operated without menu diving and is a really nice and direct imaging experience.

Based on what you are saying though, I wonder if you need to go ahead and take a big bite...   Move to a Leica M system camera.  A variety of new and used options are available and it plugs you into a world of really nice manual focus lenses from a variety of manufactures at differing prices and renderings.

Give it some thought.

Opted into the Fuji X system big time. Like to travel light and shot quick; that's why I also have a Ricoh GR....
