Anyone adapted a microscope camera for "normal" lenses?

I have an application where I'd like to have an inexpensive HDMI camera that runs strictly off DC power. I see nice looking microscope cameras all over eBay with C mounts and great form factor, and even tripod screws, but nobody seems to use them for non-microscope use. I presume the registration distance is different and regular C mount TV lenses wouldn't work without some kind of adapter -- which I presume doesn't exist yet from my searching.

Shouldn't these be easily adaptable to our SLR lenses? They usually have nice 1/3" sensors, which are not only bigger sensors, but should be newer and better than typical cheap camcorders that are 10 years old and beat up for the same prices.

Anybody tried adapting lenses to one of these?
