Exchanging two lenses for one zoom

Hi,

I'm considering selling my Nikkor 35mm 1.8G and Nikkor 18-55 VR II f3.5/5.6 lenses. I'd like to buy for that money something more general purpose like my previous zoom lens 18-55, however with better optical quality and first of all better sharpness.

Would could you recommend? I think my budget will be around $200 and I think used lens won't be a problem.

I'm thinking about Tamron 17-50/2.8 LD XR DiII SP which seems to be in my price range. I'm not sure however how good will be this lens optically. Will it be much better than Nikkor 18-55.

My second thought was about Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM however it's almost double the price. Is it much better than Tamron?

What other lenses could you reccomend with good sharpness and constant fast aperature if possible?

Thanks!
