The dedicated astro camera did go 0.2 or so magnitudes dreper. The camera must be tethered to a computer and cooled to operating temperature before using, a slow focusing procedure before opening the shutter - and then go.

Is the dedicated astro camera monochrome?  If so, I'm surprised it didn't do better given the lack of color filters and demosaicing process.   I suppose other factors were limiting (like seeing).

I do agree on the simplicity of using an all-in-one camera, although when I was doing astro work at home with a dedicated cooled camera, automation sw (autofocusing the scope, controlling the color wheels...) and the ability to control the laptop remotely from within the warmth of my home made it not so bad.
