I thought IS gives 3-4 stops advantage, Hardly  slightly’ IME. I can understand a slower lens isn’t always usable or suitable, but ‘never’? Really?

Not everyone wants to shoot moving objects. Ive shot a lot in low light with f/4 stabilised lenses over a faster prime, with great results. Camera shake can easily ruin any low light shot, even if the subject isn’t moving.

im not disagreeing that a faster Aperture allows a faster shutter speed, but a faster shutter speed isn’t always needed, and in fact neither is a wafer thin DOF either. 
I have the upmost respect for you and your photography, but I can’t agree with blanket statements like the one I’m asking about.
