The AF-S 18-55 VR2 today may be the 2nd best of the 18-55. The very best may be the AF-P 18-55 VR. The AF-S 18-55 VR2 is better than any of the older 18-55's. On a D5100 it is fine as the camera is too old for the AF-P.

I have the AF-S 18-55 VR II and the AF-P VR 18-55 and I have not noticed a single pixel difference between them. I think you're making a great choice of a one-lens solution!

Anyone with the older VR might want to consider upgrading to one of those.

Well, I’m on the holiday now, and it’s proven to have been a perfect choice. Not too intrusive at the wedding party we came here for, and fits nicely in my ‘man bag’
