The parable of the paddle shifter

One of the things I liked about my 1966 Mustang was it had a standard manual transmission.  I had the privilege of shifting gears myself.

A lifetime later I was standing in a Chrysler lot looking at a brand new Chrysler 300S I was contemplating buying.  The salesman showed me that the S model came with 20 inch rims, a Dr. Dre stereo, Special interior, and a five speed transmission with a paddle shifter on the steering wheel where I could shift gears myself.

i bought the car, and it’s been a Duesy.

I tried the paddle shifter a few times, but I usually leave it set in Drive and shift itself.

But I like having a choice, if I want  it.
