. . . to me, the ability to create the photograph I envisioned in my mind. It is mostly by trial and error, mostly error.

Have been taking pictures from age 9. Back then, with Kodak Brownie. I think I understand the principles and theories but don't want to be paralyzed by over analysis. I just make "DO" with whatever I have on-hand. The photos I make is for my satisfaction, not for anybody's approval.
