I do not find the technical side of photography trivial. It is the constant, the foundation.  More so  now with sensor based photography than ever before ,  seeing  as unlimited replication is just a press of a button away.

That aside, people "don't spend  as much thought"  on the content because while basic math is teachable  "creating great imagery"  ...not so much.
