I don’t think pixel shift would work unless the camera was on an equatorial mount that was very precisely aligned & guided as any tiny movement of the subject, such as rotating stars, causes blurring in the image.

If you’re sole use for the camera is astrophotography, go for the a7r2 as the joystick, improvements to autofocus, improved video features likely won’t be used in Astro. If you plan on using it for other “general” use as well, go the r3. One feature that would be useful on the r3 for astrophotography is the interval timer function, available through the latest firmware update.
