Scanner - line of pixels missing

Hi there

I came across the following issue when trying to scan photos on my Canon Pixma 885 scanner/printer:

In the box highlighted in red, it's as if the scanner is missing a line of pixels.

Things I've tried:

- Different dpi settings. Issue occurs on all dpi settings (though it does look worse at higher dpi settings)

- Different software - same results

- Different positions on the scanner. Issue persists, though the lines are in different positions on the photo.

Thinking it is an issue with my scanner, I was reading reviews for alternative scanners, and found a review for the LIDE 400 which showed the same problem:

Apart form that, I have only been able to found one reference to the issue, though no resolution:

Reading the Canon LIDE 400 review, it makes me wonder how widespread this issue is, or whether it is a fault in a few machines.  I'd look to purchase something else if I could be confident it would not suffer from the same issue (note, I'm only looking to scan photo prints and not negatives).

Appreciate any advice.

Regards

Stephen
