Z Nikkor 24-70 f/4 compared to 20mm and 35mm f/1.8 on the night sky

I already posted these images in another thread, in another forum, after a long discussion about image quality with my Z6/24-70 combination, but they might be interesting especially to readers of this forum, so please excuse the crossposting.

The 24-70 is excellent, it has better corners than the 35mm f/1.8 and 20mm f/1.8 (all at f/4). I am very convinced now, that my initial problems with resolution of fine detail can entirely attributed to the use of mechanical shutter instead of electronic fist curtain shutter for longer exposures.

NIKKOR Z 24-70 f/4S, 25s, f/4, 24mm, ISO2500, center

NIKKOR Z 24-70 f/4S, 25s, f/4, 24mm, ISO2500, corner

AF-S NIKKOR 20 mm 1:1,8G ED, 25s, f/4,0, ISO 1600, center

AF-S NIKKOR 20 mm 1:1,8G ED, 25s, f/4,0, ISO 1600, corner

AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G, 30s at f/4, center crop

AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G, 30s at f/4, corner crop

For comparison, this is how a film era pro zoom performs:

AF-D Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8 – 13s at f/4, 20mm, center

AF-D Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8 – 13s at f/4, 20mm, corner

BTW: using EFCS for night time imaging was a bit unsettling as you do not hear the camera starting the exposure!
