Re: EF100mm f/2

I have one as well. In fact the reason I bought it was because there's very little about it on the internet.

It's good but it feels redundant - sandwiched between the 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2.8 Macro and at a higher price point the 135mm f/2. If you were only going to buy one 100mm lens the f/2.8 Macro is the obvious choice because it covers all the bases. I imagine at some point Canon will replace it with an optically superior image stabilised variant that costs three times as much.

Wide open it has a lot of CA, and there's a soft glow, but at least in the middle that can be Photoshopped away:

The full frame at f/2 on a 5D MkII

The middle without Photoshop

The middle with Photoshop

Also the bokeh's nice:

And on a full-frame body it's just wide enough to be used as a walk-everywhere lens:

The mixture of telephoto compression and wide aperture approaches the medium format look - it's a bit like the 180mm f/4.5 on a Mamiya TLR but with the top and bottom chopped off - although the image quality isn't quite good enough, but still very good.
