You having nothing to focus on.  The camera can't focus in pitch darkness at a tiny star 100 million light years away.  Normally for any type of astro work, you manually focus.  Zoom in on a star with the touch screen, crank the ISO, focus manually until the star becomes the smallest pin size it can.  Then you can lower the ISO and take a shot.  What lens are you trying?
