Struggling with photographing white objects
1

Hi guys as per the title I am struggling to retain detail when shooting white subjects. I mainly photograph cars and find that no matter what time of day i shoot the images are always lacking detail. Shadows and highlights in the paintwork are missing and the paint ends up looking chalky with no gloss / shine. I have tried shooting at golden hour, on overcast days, on bright days in shaded areas with no luck. Darker cars are an absolute pleasure to shoot however I dread shooting white cars for this reason. I find that even pictures taken with a smartphone are usually way more pleasing than anything i take with the 6dII. To compensate i have to do alot of PP but it is still not achieving the desired look

Currently shooting using a 6DII with a Samyang 85mm 1.4 with a Hoya CPL

I am certain its user error and invite any help / advice.

Many thanks in advance.

p.s. I should mention i photograph for a dealership hence the "advertising angles".
