I'm with BobORama... There shouldn't be any backlash for "branching out." I mean, as one who was loving Pentax since my Spotmatic F, one has to see the decline over the years. I purchased a Sony last Christmas but, I took my Pentax K5-IIs on a long hike in the Alaskan outback several weeks ago because it filled the WR niche that I was walking into.
There's a guy who posts in this forum whose initially reaction is combative if anyone besmirches Pentax gear. Such is the risk for the impersonal nature of online posting. As for myself, I actually felt like I was cheating on the Pentax brand when I bought my Sony. I'm so glad I'm over that and, what relief it's been.
There are many things that I like about Pentax and a growing number of things that I like about the brand and model of camera that I recently purchased. Since I've purchased the other brand, I still frequent this forum but rarely post. I've never been to the Sony forum and don't plan to.
Generally, Pentaxians are the nicest people around. When I bought my Pentax camera, members like KPM2, Oiche, and Flektogen helped me a lot figuring out the Pentax world. Some of us get a bit carried away or emotional when someone "besmirches Pentax gear", but that is also reflective of their emotional bond with Pentax brand. As for your last comment, I don't think you need to buy another Pentax camera or lens in order to participate in discussions here :-). I have other systems (Sony, Samsung) but I rarely post on those forums
