I simply stand and shift from left to right. Takes some experience, but once I got the hang of it, I could do close ups and scenery with ease, and of course Stereophotomaker makes it easy to align with auto alignment. I can get great depth on scenic shots with wider shifting between shots, of course, but then the objects begin to look miniature, and you can see that in some shots. No wind is the key.  I also have had good success with my cellphone camera. Some camera apps have a level to use, which makes it easier. White balance can be tricky between shots as well, and some cameras allow you to keep the same settings between shots.
