My thoughts after two weeks
12
I received the camera about 2 weeks ago. I have not yet had the time to explore all the features but I have been able to use it on various occasions and here are my first impressions:
- The camera is well built and seems solid to me. I have already owned two Sony RX100 (IV & VI) models in the past and besides the body of the metal device I believe these two are similar.
- I love the electronic viewfinder. Nothing to envy to the RX100s.
- I love the grip. Very ergonomic and frankly I do not understand why Sony does not include one on its models. That makes all the difference.
- The touch screen is very good, clear and sharp, and is very responsive. It can be compared to any current phone. In addition, the ability to change the autofocus point is very convenient.
- I like the fact that the flash can be used for an indirect flash bounce.
- The lens is exactly what a lens should be for this type of device. fast, small, with an ideal focal length to be used in everyday life and traveling. It is the main reason why I bought the camera. Its performance is quite acceptable for my needs and its sharpness has nothing to envy the Sony if you want my opinion. Beware though I am NOT a pixel peeper.
- The colors out of camera are beautiful, and the jpg renderings are usually beautiful too, although I adjusted the sharpness a tick up that makes all the difference. (I have not tested raw yet)
- The menus are well done and the ability to add custom menus is very convenient.
Some weak points that come to mind:
- The autofocus is not the fastest. For everyday and normal use as well as for travel, I do not think this is a problem. But do not try to take your children playing rugby or football and hoping to get spot on focus everytime.
- The battery does not last very long. Get extra batteries. They are small though, so for me it it not a problem carrying 2-3 extras.
In short, so far, I love this little camera. It represents everything I need when I travel. Its operation is fast, the front multifunction ring is practical (I use it for opening). I have not made videos yet, so I can not judge this feature. I hope it will help you a little.
