Why not Photos for organizing photos (OSX)

I've recently returned from a 5 week trip, and using my X100T and X-H1 with the 16/1.4 & 35/1.4 I've taken around 3000 images.
Prior the task of going through all these, organizing them and selecting those I want to process doing some light processing (.jpeg files), I became curious of what kind of software others are using for this task?
Since I only own Apple computers, it is software for OSX i'm looking for. It should be as simple and user friendly as possible. I've used lightroom before, but I am looking for alternatives.
What do you use, and can you recommend it?
I decided to use Photos for organizing and simple processing (not bad results) - it works well and it is free. I'm not a pro ! I have also Capture One 12. and Affinity for more serious PP (when I try to be more serious) . I tried first to use CaptOne catalogues for my archives , but after total/final migration from Aperture it was very simple to start using Photos.
After some "serious" PP in C1 or Affinity I can send the jpeg or TIFF files to Photos (and store them in special folders or albums)
IMO it is easy to find old images and folders from Photos - those that I processed in Aperture and even older from iPhoto years.
Also places and faces can be used... and easy tagging
AND if I someday want to stop using Capture One my images are still there... in my iMac or whatever I use then
