Running 1920x1080 on a 4k monitor?

So, my 8 years old monitor has come to an end. It did serve me well but I need to buy a new one. Judging from the trend, if I am going to use the new monitor for another 8 years, I may as well go straight to 4K so that I don't need to "upgrade" it in the near future. However, there is one problem, my GTX 960 display card doesn't support 4K. And I am in no hurry to upgrade it as it still let me play BFV and Three Kingdoms: Total War without any problem. So, my question is, is it a good idea to buy a 4K monitor now and run it in 1920x1080 until let's say 1-2 years later that I decided to buy a new display card that supports 4K? Or should I just stick to FHD monitor? Besides my gaming need, photography is my another consideration. Does viewing and editing photos on a 4K monitor have any advantages or disadvantage compare to FHD? Are there any issues when running 1920X1080 on a 4K monitor? What would you do if you were me? Thank you for your advice in advance!
