It’s been 5 years now. This should have been the point at which it was released, and....we got a reheated 80d instead, which was also way overdue. At this point, yeah, pretty disappointed Canon owner. Will they release a 7d3 next year? At this point, I doubt it.

Well, it's about the right time window. The second 7D took 5-years to be released and the hype machine started around September 15th, just in time for the Christmas season.

However, everyone should chill out and consider that in less than a year we'll be talking about Tokyo 2020. There's no way Canon will leave hundreds of APS-C photogs without a state of the art subframe model for the biggest sporting event Japan has had in decades. No way, not on their home turf.

One more thing: a 7D mirrorless camera would be nonsensical, considering the very limited number of high end lenses on either M or RF mounts. Those huge and expensive telephotos and zooms work beautifully on their native EF mount already (600mm F4, 300mm F2.8, 70-200 F2.8, et al).
