Re: monochrome or color at the dunes?

Of the two original images, I greatly prefer the color version. There are a lot of beautiful elements in the photo, the blue sky and clouds, the pink blouse, the tree, the gesture, the details in the grasses and the sand, the excellent composition and balance, the way it captures the atmosphere of Sleeping Bear, and importantly the emotionally moving connection between your father and your niece.

Maybe the color version could be improved simply with some haze reduction and some selective detail enhancement of the wispy clouds in the upper left, but the image is strong just as it is. However, you could present it in a lot of different moods by selective saturation and hue adjustments if you wanted to play with it.

The mono version, to me, wants to be all about the relationship between the grandfather and the girl...the gesture, the tree, and the dune hillock and grasses, with little or no detail anywhere else to distract from those few elements.
