Linking AE lock to focus point in Live View

This pertains to K5II. I got a 0.6 GND filter and was trying to figure the best strategy for metering  in the foreground. I was under the (mistaken) impression that I could just go into the menu and link AE lock to the focus point and that it would work in both live view and without Live View, (while in the multi-segment metering mode). But I was mistaken. It looks as if it won't work in live view, but will in traditional shooting through the viewfinder. The exposure does not change in multi-segment metering in LV, regardless of where the focus point is, even if you link AE lock to that focus point. It does work when shooting through- the - viewfinder. The only way I see to work around this for LV shooting is to put the camera in spot-metering-mode (while in LV), which meters the center of the image, focus on something in the foreground and hit AE Lock button, and then recompose the shot, or just use the viewfinder whereupon I won't need to recompose.  Any thoughts? Am  I missing something?
