### MINI-CHALLENGE #552 <0.5% or a Split Second ###

I won? Oh crap!

This is really weird. I don’t remember ever even following one of the challenges before.  I am unfamiliar with how the challenges are run and hope I don’t mess up. There are several reasons I should pass on this. Not the least of which is the timing. I was already expecting to be sleep deprived for the next two weeks.

However I’ll give it a shot. But only because I doubt I’ll ever win again and I have 2 ideas for a challenge that would never work for our small camera club . The 2 types of shots I want to see are similar in being rare and they mostly depend on luck. So I’m combining them in hopes of getting a decent number of entries. With a larger pool of potential entrants here than in our club, I’m hoping this will work.

Since I don’t know much about the previous 550 Mini-Challenges, I hope I’m not repeating something done last month. I see Val posted a lot of nice comments about the “Night” entries. I apologize in advance, but I won’t have time for much of that.

<0.5% — I’m looking for shots where just a tiny fraction of the overall image is the difference between a boring shot and an interesting one.

If that eye was closed -  Nothing.  (Canada Goose and, your guess is as good as mine, now many goslings.)

Split Second — Shots where timing is everything. A split second sooner or later wouldn’t have produced nearly as interesting a result.

Touchdown! Those of you familiar with American style football will get the double meaning.

This challenge begins now and ends at 6:00 PM CDT (USA) on Sunday July 28th.

And now for the rules:

1. Submit a maximum of 3 Entries to win and/or as many Exhibits as you wish.
2. Photos must have been taken by you but can be from any camera, including cell phones, and may have been taken at any time.
3. There are no restrictions on processing or on composite shots - all are acceptable. It's the image that counts, not how it was produced. Post processing and modification can be as light as you like, all the way up to fully abstract or composite images.
4. Please state in the header of your post, or in the comments bar below each image, whether they are "Entry" or "Exhibit". Non-labelled submissions will be assumed to be Exhibits.
5. Post all images using the "Reply to thread" button below this first post. Images posted in comments when sub-threads develop to keep the sense of the conversation going may of may not be discovered and included in the judging by yours truly.
6. At the end of this challenge, I will announce First, Second and Third places from the Entries in a separate RESULTS thread, and I may select some other submissions among the exhibits for Honorable Mentions.

The First Place winner has the "honor" of becoming the host of the next challenge and has 3 days to begin it. The winner can respond to the challenge setter with a forum post or PM. If that individual doesn't respond in 3 days, or has to decline to serve, the Second Place winner becomes the next host. If that individual declines to serve, the Third Place winner becomes the next host.
