Neither media archives by itself. In both cases you have to put effort into it.

Black and white film will last over 100 years, but don't expect it to last 200 years. Theoretically, a digital photograph will last thousands of years without any deterioration, so long as it's recopied from time to time to newer backup media.

I don't think the acrhival issue is a valid reason to prefer one media over the other. But if color photography is your thing, digital probably wins the archival contest.
