Have you ever compared 1.4 with 1.8? There's almost no difference in depth of field at all, and the OSS means you can lower the shutter speed to compensate for the slightly narrower aperture anyway. Just get the Sony. They're not as sharp, but sharpness isn't everything, and often the sharpest lenses produce very flat looking images.

You're funny. 1.8 vs 1.4 is a big deal if you want background blur, which is always good on APS-C camera. Plus it's 2/3 stops slower, which is a big deal in low light, compensating a bit the absence of OSS. And Sigma is waaaaay sharper than Sony 50/1.8. Sigma is fully usable wide open with razor sharpness while Sony needs to be stopped to f/2.5-2.8 for more or less sharp images. According to you, all of that doesn't matter. Okay

They're also not oversized like the Sigma's, and tend to have WAY less distortion. The 50mm for APS-C is rectilinear, no distortion at all (it's also less than half the price). 1.4 isn't everything.

Sigma 30/1.4 and 56/1.4 are not oversized at all. 16/1.4 is pretty big, but just as big as Sony 24/1.4GM and has no real rivals. As for distortion - it's 2019 and it's corrected in-camera or by a profiles in RAW editing software.
